Hello all,
Im new to these forums and Im also sorta new to Honda ATCs... Kinda hoping maybe one of you could help me with my problem.
Well my question is, I have a 1984 ATC 200x and Im having some troubles getting the swing arm bolt out...
I have removed the nut and washer on the one end and loosed the chain tensioners. I then tapped on the threaded end with a dead blow hammer and the long bolt doesnt want to come out.
Is there maybe a C-Clip holding that long bolt in, or is it rusted in there, or maybe the bushings are locked to it and wont let it come out? I put the nut on the end of the bolt and hit it really hard with a sledge hammer and it still wont come out...
Hope maybe one of you could help...? It would be GREAT if someone could tell me how that thing is held in there.
THANKS!

haha basically all you can do it beat the crap outta it with the hammer or cut it off and buy a new one....but be careful you dont screw up the threads.

Lots of PB Blaster will help.
Welcome to 3ww.

It gets seized inside the swinger. I had to cut mine out with a sawzall, and even that was a pain in the ass.

That is not what I wanted to hear Rob :p
Well last night I did what xrider told me to do and with a really big hammer and some hard blows it still stayed in one place.
So today Im adding xrider's help with MonroeMike's idea and its been soaking in PB Blaster for only 15 minutes. Im going to keep spraying it for like 3 hours and letting it soak then try.
And I guess if that all fails im going to do what I dont want to do, and its called doing it Rob style. Im going to have to cut it out. But thats the last thing I want to do so we will see...
This all started cause I bought this 200x from a guy 2 days ago and I want to put a 200s motor in it, but I want to repaint the frame and swing arm first. Damn me for trying to make my stuff look nice :(

Great I am dealing with this as well....I bought a 200x and took everything off to part it out and this is the only thing I am having trouble with....I don't have a sawzall to cut it out with....

Ugh, even more bad news. But no, thanks for the help/tips guys I really appreciate it!
Im sorry to hear that inv3ctiv3, but maybe you could cut it with a hack saw or something? That could take a long whiles and maybe go through a few blades but you can sell swing arms for a good buck, so maybe its worth it?
But if you havent tried the PB Blaster method then you could give that a try...?

The thing that makes it hard to do with a saw is there is barely any room to get a blade in there, and when you do get it in there it's a weird angle.

Well I went back out and soaked it again in PB Blaster and took a look at how I would cut it and thought to myself it doesnt look to hard, just TRYING to make a good situation out of a bad one but once again Robs post is right there telling me otherwise  Im just kidding, thanks for the help Rob and its looking more and more like Im going to have to cut this bugger out...

Nah it's not too bad. If you have a sawzall with some long blades that are somewhat sharp you will get it.

Well all, I got it! It took about 1/2 a can of PB Blaster and some hitting but its out! Unfortunately I wasnt able to save the threads, they got a little owned in the mess... So I guess I will have to buy a new one of them but Im soooo pumped that its out.
Thank you all for your help and tips and once I get a decent way into my project I will post some past pictures of what it looked like and what all I did. Also I will try to stay active in the forums by helping out others as you did for me!

Thank you AutoXer and MonroeMike for telling me about the bushings, I just have one question... Do the bushings replace the bearings that are blown to pieces inside the swing arm housing? And how do I get a hold of X System to maybe buy a pair or two of these?
Edit:
Also leevarnado, I see that you have two of the pivot bolts for sale, how much you want for one of them, shipping and all?

I'm just gonna voice my opinion.
The stock bearings work smooth and super. If you run in water/mud, you have to remove the bolt once in awhile and grease the crap up.
The nylon is a nice fix, no maintenance, easy and inexpensive. They are a very well made product!!
But it is NOT smooth, there is whats referred to as "stiction" there where the suspension sticks a bit and has some friction.....
Bounce a 250R suspension up and down with the stock stuff greased up and the nylon bushings and you will see what I'm talking about.
DEEPA has the nylon stuff and I keep bustin his chops about it

Thanks for your advice Dirtcrasher ;) The bearings are $25 off E-Bay so I just wonder what the price difference is...

Good info DC, never even considered that.
This is x.system's post about the bushings.

I am interested in the bushings as well.....DC how bad is the "stiction" with the bushings?

It's not bad in the least! they will work fine at speed. It's more like when you push down on the seat and it doesn't return to the top without a bit of a tug. Like a sagging or tired shock.
Lets remember how old these are, how expensive OEM stuff is and how simple a fix the nylon or UHMW bushings are. If I make up a set on my lathe, I'll see what oil impregnated nylon (delrin) does but I bet they'll still stick just a bit.
You can merely feel just a hair of friction in the assembley.
This is why MANY swinger pivots have the thrust/side load needle bearings. So that no matter how TIGHT you sock down the swinger pivot bolt, it simply cannot affect the ability to pivot smoothly. Engineers add a couple thousandths here or there between collars and carefully placed washers to get the job done. Keep them greased and your good :D
AGAIN - PLEASE do not take this the wrong way. The guy is making a product that works great, lasts nearly forever and requires zero maintenance.
The average guy would say "WTF" they work great! and they do! and the fit/finish and price are super :beer
But as usual, Honda has a reason for making things the way they do and the stock setup is super smooth :D

Thank you MonroeMike for giving me the thread to x.system's bushings. Despite what Dirtcrasher said about the bushings I decided to get a pair and see how they do... But I do thank you a lot Dirtcrasher for explaining to me the differences in the two set ups and what to expect.
Thanks guys!
