things in the garage were getting out of hand, and i had been wanting to do this for awhile. Built the whole thing myself for about 2 g's. alot of blood and sweat went into this, but i am happy with it. my first real forray into carpentry! still needs alot of little things to be complete, but its weather tight, and its got power!

thanks guys, i still have alot to do on the inside to get it how I want, I already have a small glass front ARIZONA tea fridge that will fit just right in there. I use my tri fold ramp to get the trikes up top, its not bad at all. I had the 250es up there already. I want to make like a 16" extension for the ramp then i would be able to drive them right up!! tried it already, right as I was about to crest the front wheel came up and I ended up back out the door:w00t: for now I will just push em up. gotta build a work bench thats my next task.

thanks again guys! my original plan was to put a woodstove in there, It looks so big when empty, Now, i'm not sure where to put it. can only probably use a real small boxstove, been looking for one for cheap!! right now I have a section of 8' 220v baseboard heat that i wired a switch onto, havnt tried it yet, but should work well just to take the edge off when im out there. Still have to finish soffits, and insulate a bit. When i'm all settled in i will take some new pics to post. Just been cutting fire wood last 3 weeks, so havnt had much time to button up the shed.

You did a nice job. They look alot bigger empty. I don't know if you plan on getting it cover with insurance or have it cover under your present homeowner or what but my insurance would not cover my garage I have if I put a wood stove in it. To much flammable material. I ended up putting a 220 electric heater I hung in one corner. Works great to take the chill off. My shop is 20 x 20 and well insulated. My ceiling is only 7 feet so it works good.

metal is the way to go, alot easier, no need to sheath roof, looks great, and last forever!! plus here in the north east the snow slides right off.

That was quite the "forray" into carpentry, Lol. I think you had some help!! Awesome little "Man Cave" you got there. All you need now is a mini fridge, HD T.V. and wireless internet and you'll never need to go back into the house ;-)

Speaking of "Man Caves" I couldn't resist stepping outside and clicking a couple of pictures of mine while I watch the Sunday night football game. Notice what I have on the computer screen :-). I got internet, HD T.V. and a mini fridge. I can hold out in here for a day or so!! Depending on how much the wife and kids are driving me nuts. My wheelers are in the garage. This is where I scour ebay for parts and read my favorite atc forum while enjoying a cold one and watch the game. What sucks is, is that my friends call me the Una-bomber, Ted Kysinski. Because my little casita looks like the small house he lived in. Haha, it's all good.

ya, everyones amazed at my master carpentry skills:lol: actually framing is quite easy, any ?'s i had like rafter layout and such, I googled:lol: I have actually built things before, but nothing like this. I also install hardwood floors, and am an electrician by trade, so I know "some" stuff. I wasnt going in blind!! that is quite a setup you got. strange structure, is that the side or a rock face its on. Is the floor flat inside? looks quite cozy!! I'll get there eventually.. I saw that shot of the ridiculous 86 you posted in another thread. Whats up with that? very very nice machine!!

my original idea was much smaller, but my Pops gave me some 4x12x18' pressure treated boards for the base, so i figured i would use the whole board instead of cutting them down. Glad i did, Its about perfect size for my toys, and still plenty of room to work!! those are 8' high, not 8"deep!!

Real nice work :D Looks great!!!!!!! (both of the sheds shown)........

I'm at 16x20 insulated, sheet rocked top half, 4' plywood on the bottom. With all the wheelers and lathe and mill, it's not quite a man cave  But it's mine and I love it.....

I found that a concrete pad ran about the same as the lumber and would be fire resistant - I am terrified of fire!

The woodstove worried me, I was afraid of fire - again. So, once I insulated the whole thing and sheetrocked it, it seemed a bit more resistant to fire.

Everytime we re did the heat and AC in a GAP, Old Navy ete etc , they threw away the 230V fan powered heaters for the stock room (for when the door is opne and stock rolls in) That thing works AWESOME!! I have a 12,000 BTU AC unit in there too :D

I have 2 more but they are 480V, if I ever work again and I get a 230V Lenox, I'll give you a yell :D

Nice work! And I love the shed on uneven ground too, I'd love to see how that was built?

I would definatly like to get it insulated soon, first day of fall already, I was thinking some 1/4 inch ply for the walls myself, little more protection than the rock! My dad gave me the blocks and the 4x12s, I got the 2x8 joists salvaged from some crated bus duct at work, and my buddy owns a dump so the stone was peanuts. All I got into the base are joist hangers and plywood!!! ya, once you get your machines, and some tools in, the space goes quick. If i do put a stove in it will just be one of those smallbox stoves, and i'll exit it right out the window. Dont want it permanant, so I can yank it out in the summer! Dude thats sweet you hooked up with those heaters. wonder if the 480 ones have a multi tap motor, or strictly 480. DC where in mass are you, I was born in berkshire county, moved out of pittsfeild when I was 16. Still go to the cape for vaca!!

Dirtcrasher
09-23-2009, 08:44 PM
Yep, I used 1/2" ply for the 1st 4' up, kept it 1" above the floor which keeps any liquids from "wicking up" - then I rocked the upper half and painted it. I got ALLOT of my materials for free off of jobs. GC's call and say "I have 78 sheets of plywood, you have to take them ALL or they go in the dumpster" sadly, I turn allot down and there is money to be made if you had the storage :(

Even if the heat strips aren't multi tap, you'd just change the wattage output.

The problem is the dam fans, they are voltage specific :(

Retail uses 480V allot to keep overall amperage lower (service size, some of which are 400amps) and it allows a smaller gauge wire to be run because a year ago copper was a FORTUNE!!

If I get a heater, I'll let you know

Obtaining a JOB would be a good start :D

trying to button things up in the shed in between everything else. Got my woodstove installed, aside frome a heatsheild behind it. Also got the ceiling insulated, and alot of the gaps and such filled with foam. Got some tools in the box, starting to get organized.
