Ok, this has been posted on a couple other sites. After a search here I didn't see it. So I hope it's not a duplicate thread. Just way to cool not to share. I PM'd the member who claims to know the owner. Maybe he or she is on here and is just keeping this hidden for a few more years. Like a fine wine getting sweeter with time! What do you think she'd bring on eBay, even in the current market? ENJOY!

I remember seeing this on another site, and the main question that arose was why is the gas cap missing from the tank? That is a sweet find though for sure! Too bad the box is mangled on that side too, but you can see it better that way. I would love to get my hands on somthing like that.

I would do two things with that if I owned it. First, I would have the outside box reproduced, so that it can look new again. Next I would build a plexi-glass case to put over it and sit it in my living room!

Im with Billy,
I would RIDE it.
I got a question for the people i have seen say its worth 10k-30k. Who do you think would pay that much for it?
I meen honestly i dont know of anyone thats into trikes enough that would dump that kinda money into something that is only good to look at. Trike guys are typicaly trike guys because they ride. The collectors seem to be into fixing them up just as much as collecting them. There is a big diffrence in paying 2k for a nice R to change a few things to make it perfect and all original, Its another thing to pay 5X that for a piece thats only vaule is history.
Honestly the only people i could see somewhat intrested in something like that would be a dealership like the Kerney Yamaha.
I remember vaguely, a few hi- dollar sellers selling "Like new" barely ridden 350X's to some hi figure people for between 5-7k a few years ago, and those were used machines. I think there was a NFL football player around here that paid like 8k for a almost new 86 350X.
I would think a deep pocket collector would pay at least 10K for a new in crate machine like that.
But in this economy, 7k to 9k is more realistic, sad, but true.
whyzee
09-14-2009, 08:16 PM
i would ride it also, but only in the snow with old plastics on it.
i agree that 7k is the top of the price range

09-14-2009, 08:19 PM
Guys the difference is with this one is ITS IN THE CRATE! No restoration, or armor-all, or even human hands assembling it. To the collecter it doesnt get any better and will only be worth more as time goes on. And there are people out there with DEEP pockets. I've seen a pair 1986 Honda Z50R's chrome edition in the crate go for $50K. A 1985 CR500 in crate go for $15K. If you are wealthy beyond belief $30K is a drop in the bucket.
And as far as riding it goes that would be quite a waste to me. Crate 250R's just dont grow in the garden guys, there is no shortage of 250r's out there if you want to ride one spend a grand or less and pick one up. Because once its assembled w/gas and started up its no longer new anymore and the mystique is gone and is just like all the other thousands that are out there.
Plus lots of people say oh I have the nicest low hour all original 250R..well none of the those bikes can compare to the like of this cause its untouched straight in the box from Honda.

09-14-2009, 08:21 PM
Unfortunatley, anything is only worth as much as someone is wiling to pay for it. I would prolly pay some big bucks for that if I had it to spend. Then I would assemble it and ride it. Not thrash it, but at least ride it around and got my money's worth.

The 50 K Chrome special edition 50's never did sell. The auction ended. I happen to know the collector who tried to buy. Same guy had a mint 350x and R as well. 50 K its easy when you got it. I have seen alot of stuff in crates sell astronomically to the gentleman I know. RC51's in crates. CX750 and 500's honda's turbo bikes brand new in crates just to name a few. Its insane what things sell for.

09-15-2009, 11:09 AM
Why would you guys even want to ride it?
There are many mint/cherry/low hour/like new OEM 250Rs out there. You could ride or own one of those if you want to have that "new 250R" feeling.
Once you take it out of the crate and assemble it, it's value goes way down - - right? These guys already opened the crate and presumably took off the gas cap, so did that already lower the price?

Shoot you could travel around to different mx and off road shows. Setup a little booth and charge $20 a person to come see it. I know I'd pay up.
I'd also keep it indoors climate controlled. Something like that you have a custom built open section in your house wall to keep it. Like a statue

My heart is still a flutter! My contact paid off. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!! (if you read this) The owner called me this morning about, 8:30am WI time. We have worked out a price for purchase of the crated 250R. He seems like a very nice gentleman who knows what this 250R is worth, but is not completely unreasonable. Though, I'm sure a few would think he is crazy, and mock the situation. He also seems very honest and realizes others will most likely be contacting him now that this has hit the web. He offered me time to come up with the funds and first dibs, so to speak.
Needless to say, I now regret posting this to more eyes. I hope that the members here will allow me to work this deal without meddling. If this deal doesn't go through I will most certainly say I'm out. I know what "crap or get off the pot means"

awesome find, if it was me i would store it in a shipping container (dry and dark). then wait about 15-25yrs just to see what the prices might be for it.
I wouldnt ride it, or take it out the crate. If you have the money for a bike like that, you have the money to buy and ride a very very low hour bike, of which, a few turn up often enough !
If you pay $20k for it, then ride it, it's no better than a low hr $5k bike' and you're out £15k , and for what, ONE ride ??
And, you get hated by every one else who wanted it to remain NEW !
Also, i don't think Honda have a stash of crated 250R's from 86 or 87 ? Just my 2c :wondering

Congrats Andy - I saw your name over on TRX.org before I read this entire post - and thought to myself - who is Andy Siebel - that names sounds so familiar. then I finished riding here. Congrats to you on this 1 in a million find.
For all of those saying - "put it together and ride it" - that so defeats the purpose of owning this. As soon as you ride it - your ZERO hour machine now has hours on it. That would just be foolish. For the amount of money it would take to purchase this crate 250R - you could piece together an all new NOS OEM 250R that you could ride.
Again - congrats - you are among the great ones now!

IDK why the gas cap concerns anyone..... Besides, it's a plastic tank!
Just like a gas grill, I imagine that there is a box/bag in there with all the pieces to finish it, Just look at the caliper sitting there, it COULD have been bolted on, but thats probably not how Honda rolls.
Any of you guys that worked at a dealer (I know one in here :naughty:) may shed some light on how these crates and pieces are shipped/assembled.
If BB got it, I'm very happy for him. I like the guy, he has a nice personality and does fantastic work. Apparently enough of it to pony up the bucks to buy this.
It's too bad that the little guys never get a chance at these things but maybe we didn't spend most of our life working our arse off to put us in a place where we COULD buy something like this. Not everyone got a handout or a settlement/inheritance, some did, but others did it with hard work.
CONGRATS TO THE PAST AND FUTURE OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The crates are bolted together and the machine is blted to the crate at certain points. Of course the Honda crate even has welded on nuts, so all you remove is the bolts.

Congrats if you can rope that in your stable. I have a feeling this one will be a 3 wheel legend...the god of ATCs to date. Good Luck in acquiring it. When I drove out to OHIO to buy my virtually new 1987 200x I had people trying to buy it out from under me my whole 8 hr drive out. In my opinion anything under 20K I would call a deal for sure , you need to think of the insane reality of this bike , brand brand new everything , correct color plastics , the tank the wheels , the seat all of this stuff is extinct in the parts world and its all as it came from japan 23 years ago. I have done multiple 15K 86 250r restorations for collectors that yes were practically as good as brand new but still are not .I would give half my collection for this one bike I own a brand new never run tri moto 125 and there is something about a new atc that is so incredible you really have to have a passion like i do for this stuff to appreciate the value here . I deal with some pretty big players that collect these bikes and i know they would pay well over 20K for it even in this economy easy . I would be very happy to see someone get it for a deal but it needs to be preserved as it should .

FYI, Honda of Japan has NO interest in this bike for thier museum. There are numerous 250R's on this site that are nicer thasn the one in Honda's museum. Don't forget, this bike almost broke Honda with civil lawsuits. To this day they are still being sued for the ATC'S

I built the 86 250r that honda has in there museaum in Japan, it is by far besides the new one here in the crate the nicest 86 250r you will ever find , I collected parts for over 10 years to build that bike it is almost 100% NOS besides the frame . so the museaum would not have an interest in this one .even though honda still feels the hurt from the lawsuits they still very much want ATCs at the museaum I have restored alot of ATCs for them . Its the private collectors here in the states that would pay the big money for it there are alot of them you would be suprised they never pop up on any of these sites they just have there own little stash and enjoy them for themselves . I wish i had the money to even think of buying something like this but its not going to happen , its just nice to see its out there .

Well... I have been staying tuned to everyone's thoughts here. I too believe like Mike at VM, it's worth 20K+ minimally. I can't responsibly give the price, as I don't need any ridiculers to rain on this parade, or to ruin any future possible sales. By that I mean, if I'm about to loose my house or a family member needs life saving surgery. I will admit if someone from American Honda came knocking at the door I would give them kind consideration. They are the makers of my hobby/passion after all.
That said I'm currently doing a little research. I need to know the legalities of taking possession of such a machine. These were never to be delivered in the crate, unassembled. Also is this bike possibly missing off of a Honda manifest to be destroyed from back in 1987 ?? Obviously, I would never rat the owner out, but am doing do some due diligence as to not have Honda looking to reposes their old inventory at my loss $$!
I believe in my heart, contrary to my wife and close family, this will be the best purchase of my life! If this deal goes through, this bike, out of all, will be the closest to my heart and will not be assembled under my watch.
As for the Plexiglas idea. I don't think so. Ya know how somethings don't get your heart pounding when you see them every day. I keep everything under cover to bring out on occasion and share with friends. I get the goose bumps like they do when the covers come off. Not to mention everything needs to "breath" a little. Plexiglas would make for restrictive air flow, possibly leading to mold or something.
Well, I'm glad you guys are so positive. Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement! I am so excited at the prospects of owning this little jewelry box! I want to personally thank duner450r & scary132 for there posts!
Thanks everyone!

I love the link story...urban legends start like this. My buddy...just happend to stop by...dealer just loaded it up and gave it away...never got a bill. Can anyone believe that...come on.
Whats funnier is the West Virgina (Cover-up) Chrome strip over the vin / serial # on the box...Whatch ya hidding that for?
tri z...believe it or not, its upto you, but its true. i never thought about it when i first posted this up, but i hope no one gets in trouble over this. the dealer and the owner have been friends for many years, it was not a random "drop by".
also, i wasnt trying to hide anything. since the one side had gotten tore apart, he taped another box over it to cover it up. that was just left over from that.
there are many urban legends...this is NOT one of them!

Just wondering, but it seems like the front brake line is pretty ugly from what I can see in the picture. A problem we all have on our 250R's and 350x's. And I wonder what kind of decay and deteriation has occured to this machine while it has been sitting on the floor in some damp garage for the last 24 years. Of course the new owner is going to preserve it the way it is in the crate but I think it might still need some kind of freshing up. These plastic, rubber, and vinyl items were not designed to last a hundred years. Im curious to see how all those components survived and what condition they are in.

Andy,
I really wouldn't worry about Honda looking for it unless you brought up a lawsuit.

I have been getting some good positive feedback from folks in with Honda and will be hopefully confirming the legalities soon. Soon after, I will most likely be making travel plans to purchase the crated R in person. This may take a little bit to organize, as I will have to take time off from my Buster Brown duties and well..... This week was my last week of company vacation for the year to date. I just may become sick for a few days ;) :naughty:  !
I will keep you all up to date as things progress. Thanks again for the kind words, and encouragement! If this works out I would love to make a debut at trike fest some year with my family.

I'll say this; It doesnt surprise me in the least that there are 250r's in the crate still, the dumpsters at Honda were full of cut up frames and parts. So maybe one of the bikes didnt make it onto a scrapper truck, or maybe one was sent over from japan for a display model and it never happened.
I know of a fl400R still in the crate that was left in the dealerships basement after sales had stopped, it was meant to be a display and sadly after a flood it was rusted and ruined.
Good luck to you Buster!

We can find mint ATC250R's all day log but not crate 250R's.
It needs to be preserved and possibly displayed. 1st one we have ya know..........
Many people think the original trikes are here to stay. Little by little, they go away one piece at a time.
In time, people will be pissed about the parts they tossed or ruined along the way :P( When they're gone they're gone.........

I have to agree. Normally, I say anything that was built to be driven should be driven. This is one of those special cases where it shouldn't be. Sure there might be more of these out there but when was the last time you saw one? Keep it in the crate and buy one that's already been ridden if that's what you're looking for.
Micahdogg

It just depends on your experiences. If you've ridden trikes for 15-20 years, why do you need to ride this particular one? I can see how some would be more than content to preserve it.
I on the other hand have only had a couple three wheelers in my life - the first, second and FINALLY a third gen 250R. I would be very tempted to assemble it and take her for a spin because at this point in my life, being able to say in 2009 I rode a brand new '86 250R would just be tooo cool.
Either way, I'm glad that I'm not a candidate for ownership because I would be walking on eggshells around it 24-7 no matter if I did ride it or just keep it.
One question I do have for the purests though....wouldn't something like this be of maximum value if it continued to sit exactly as it has? I wonder if the future owners would have it assembled, try to preserve it in its current state. I just can't imagine that 15 years from now, the assembled three wheeler rolling around would be more valuable.

It's interesting to me when we're going to reach that point where everyone is so afraid of wearing out a part or breaking a part that they stop riding altogether... where everything is so expensive, you can't find ANYTHING for the trikes anymore, etc...
And whether or not we'll still be using gasoline as a fuel at that moment.
And whether or not the human race will still be around.

Well guys, It's a GO! :Bounce
It's been kind of a rough roller coaster ride. I almost gave up last weekend after a long heated discussion with my wife. I even made an "I'm out" call to the owner, only to keep getting his answering machine Sunday. I wasn't going to make an exit like that, so both times I just hung up. Between the stretched pocket book, and divorce prospects (LOL), I was supper bummed!
Monday my sales skills prevailed and I convince the wife to stay on board with the purchase. We are back to green! Well some green.....:wondering
I think Dirtchacer said "
It's too bad that the little guys never get a chance at these things but maybe we didn't spend most of our life working our asses off to put us in a place where we COULD buy something like this. Not everyone got a handout or a settlement/inheritance, some did, but others did it with hard work."
Truth is... I am, one of the little guys. I started back over 5 years ago thinking: I'll just get an old three wheeler to putts around with, thinking of the dreams I had strolling through the dealerships back in the 80's with my folks. Never thought things would evolve to this??? I have had to beg, borrow, and just about steal to make this purchase happen. So much for getting a new vehicle in the near future. I love this hobby so much, maybe too much. Just ask my sweet, understanding wife! I don't come from a wealthy past, or from easy luck, but just a brown, I mean blue collar hard working lifestyle, where anything is possible if you try hard enough! My two young kids still eat well and hopefully will see the fruits of my labor.
So..... I'm kind of glad the owner isn't very computer savvy and is an honest easy going fellow. He has a small list of new contacts waiting on deck, If I bow out. Apparently, the kind member (duner450r) who originally posted the friendly spy photos on TRX450R.org and helped pass my # to the owner, has been getting plenty of PM's over the last couple weeks with other inquiries. The owner could've easily bailed on me and moved on to the next guy. After all it's been almost 3 weeks.
I received a few more photos last night, and though I'd share. You can see by these that some of the usual items show their age. The brake lines are yellowed, and the rear shock bottom bumper is split. Some items were packaged up using regular rubber bands and over time they have dried and let loose. I spoke to the owner again last evening as he walked around verbally inspecting for decay. The fenders, tires, and rubbers all seem to be in good shape. The swinger has a few small surface rust spots. The factory gold paint never was high quality in my opinion, anyway. No clear coat or anything on the swingarms. An alcohol wet nap will easily pull some of the gold paint. Obviously, the whole thing is very dusty, and has a few cob webs. I don't even want him to clean it up, though. It's a true time capsule. :w00t:
I'll be closing on my funds from the bank in a week or so. I'm probably going to just have it shipped via frieght, reluctantly. As things are here now, it will be much cheaper to go this route and well,.....I 'm not up for the 4000 mile round trip! No vacation time left either. I'll insure it to the hilt! Hopefully have her by Halloween!
Thanks to all those who PMed with advise and other info! I appreciate your help.

I'm proud of any man who goes after and achieves what he wants. This is definitely the opportunity of a lifetime, and congrats to you for making it happen. I think if I had the opportunity to own something like that I would knock a hole in a wall and install it there so it could be seen from both sides. Would encasing it in glass or plexiglass and somehow vacuum sealing it help with aging?
Awesome to say the least. Congrats again.

Very nice... 12 years ago I knew where hundreds of OEM trikes were sitting in the containers. GN Gonzales in Baton Rouge, he had warehouses FULL of bikes that had just never made it to the floor.
I personally watched the 70+ year old owner ride a brand new Terracross out of the building into a buyer's truck in late 2005. A private sale between himself and the buyer, technically a USED atv.
In 1997, he sold off ALL spare engines, and any trikes that he had available. From what I gathered from the ladies at the sales desk...the majority were bought by the average joe. Sport bikes were NEVER as popular down here as the utilities, and I've seen more than a few Big Reds that certainly don't have 20 years of riding time on them.
I certainly commend you for keeping this one in the crate. The amount of bikes that left crates from one dealership alone really makes you think.

Honda made the shock bumpstop out of a burrito.....
I'm willing to bet that the seals are just fine.
What has my curiosity:
Is there oil in the motor? I'm fairly sure there must be...
Is there brake fluid in the masters? It looks like the lines are attached to the brake assembleys, I bet they get bolted on and away you go!
Is the gas cap in a box, was it always shipped that way in a crate??
And I wonder about the chain too, I don't feel like backing up to look, but is it installed and or rusty or ok??
Just curious :D :beer

Dirtcrasher- I'm with you on the fluids. Although I'm not sure, and not worried, I'm curious too. I thought about asking, but really don't want any spills or leaks as a result of having the owner check. I'll investigate when I get it. The brakes I'd bet for sure have fluid, but engine oil and coolant, ??? I worked at a John Deere dealership at 18, and set up many new rider/tractor lawn mowers. If memory serves me, I think I had to top off and/or just check the engine oil & coolant, as they were filled and test run prior to crating. Who knows......,though. I'm thinking the brakes would've taken a lot of time to prime up and bleed at set up. Just my .2 cents???
The chain looks to be great with that white greased look. Oh, and he claims the gas cap is in one of the packaged boxes. The tank looks like such a tight fit, that maybe the cap would have added a couple inches to the overall height of the crate. Again, just a thought.

So here it is....... Really just the same pics as before, but just a different background.
It's pretty dirty, and the cover's getting weak, as you can probably see. Just about 24 years worth of dust settled on this thing. The majority of the bike is coated with a waxy type coating. Maybe it's similar to HONDA wax in a spray can.....after 24 years of decomposition?? Almost like a thin clear fog film. Some of the gas tank and rubber parts are white with this coating, but can be wiped off with a clean towel. She really needs a good cleaning/detailing. I think I'll put it on the top bunk of one of the racks to keep it high and dry, after a meticulous going over. Should make it a little harder for my kids to mess with too. Anyway, I've got to get to bed, so here some fresh pics. I'll be happy to answer anything you guys want to know a little later. This weeks work schedule is a real pain, and is kick'n my @ss!

Thanks guys for the jubilation. I'm pretty stoked. The wife hasn't come out to see it yet, though :wondering ;)
My garage is a mess right now, Tim. I've got like,.... four bikes torn apart and in different stages of slow reassembly. What a mess! On the front burner is my brother's 1990 Suzuki LT 500. He's down at the Gitmo country club, in Cuba. I want to get his quad done by Christmas in case he gets a chance to come home for the holidays. I'll post some pics in a new thread here quick for fun. "LETS SEE YOUR GARAGE/SHOP STUFF!"
Magic James-
The gas cap is in one of the miscellaneous parts boxes. They sure left a lot more to be assembled back then. At least a couple hours of final set up work here.
Oh, and it has fluids from the factory.

This is one of the coolest things I think I've seen in a while. It's good to see that this one will stay in the same condition for the next ? years.

Freakin sweet. Reminds me of the bikes i used to assemble out of the crate at the chinese dealership (of course there is a huge difference in quality but its still crated the same) Wish I had one. If I ever go back east Ill have to stop by and just drool all over. I'll probably need a bib. Good for you I know I would be way stoked.

I'd leave it in the crate. Once it's out it no longer is a crated R and it's just not the same. Something about the crate that ads value to me.

I work at a Honda dealership and my main job is to set up new units. I am so friggin glad the newer quads come more complete than that. Throw the skid plate, front guard, axle guards and seat on it and it's done. I can usually do 10 of em a day, running ready to go. But that looks like a 2 maybe 3 trikes might get put together a day.

ENJOY!

If you can find smaller dealerships in small towns you can find them! I grew up in a town of 35oo peoplein centeral nevada and we had a honda yamaha dealer and I know the owner has at least 15-20 different 3wheelers from the late 80's because you could not give them away in 86, 87, and 88 to many lawsuits!! So I guarantee there are plenty of bikes out there not put together, because they could not and would not sell them back in 87 88. Alot of the little dealers were afraid to sell them in fear of back lash!

I would love to get pics of them for you guys, I'm not trying to start a mad stir for these, I just wanted to say they are still out there to be found, he was a dealer near wilkes barre, pa. We bought our snowmobiles and original 3 wheelers and atvs from him in 1983, 82 tri-zinger, 83 ytm200E, a blaster in 89, a Warrior in 96, his kids used to race bikes, trikes, and quads on the circuit and he has kept some of there machines also, I have seen the race machines for my self, quite a few times when they were in the shop when I would stop in to buy parts or look around, I'm also best friends with his head mechanics grandson and he has seen them for himself, my buddy got a 81 yamaha SRX snowmobile from him that was supposed to be destroyed, but it wasn't, the owner lives in my hometown and I drive by the building they are in (his original shop) everytime I am in town, if I see him outside I will stop and ask him about them and maybe some pictures, I know he will not sell them, I know lot's of people around town who have asked, and he says he is leaving them to his kids and that's that, so that's the scoop guys, see ya, Ron

As most of us Tracking this auction have probably seen by now there have been 4 bid retractions to Andy's auction as of 9:00am eastern time this morning. I would suggest to Andy to post here in our Forum the eBay user ID's so that any of us here that use eBay can add them to our blocked bidder list. For those of you who didn't know that is an eBay option, it absoultely is and I encourage people to use it as to many of us have been stung. So PLEASE Andy, when this auction is over and settled I ask you to help the rest of here prevent the frustrations you have experienced by posting their eBay user names. I sure hope none of them are members here but if so we should know that to. Hope the auction goes back up and ends with a legitimate bidder! P.S. The last retractor claimed item description was changed and it was not. eBay allows adding to the description but no changes once a bid has been placed. Andy only added a sincere "Thank You" since the last retractor with PRIVATE feedback pulled back their bid. Also the other thread about this wondered about it and if Andy canceled the bid, no he didn't, the bid would say, "Canceled" vs. "Retracted". Personally I believe people are trying to provoke Andy to pull the auction! Just my opinion!

I was in the barber shop and a conversation came up about 3 wheelers. A man in his late 60s swears he knows a guy who has a HONDA ATC still in the crate. The man bought it years ago from a dealership and he still has it but he is not sure if it is a 250 big red or what but he is going to talk to him today. Be interesting to find out if this is true.

On one hand you are right, it would be awsome to see Buster put it together and how hard it would be not to but this is a peice of history. This is a rare glimpse of how ATC's came in a crate back in the day. Todays ATV's come fully assembeld in the crate unlike their 1980's counterparts. .... I will keep you guys posted on the other crated ATC we maybe suprised of what model year it actually is ,he was not sure.

I just reread the whole ordeal here with fond memories. It's been sitting for about two years untouched now. Almost forget it's up there under cardboard, and cover...... ??What to do with it?? Kinda like thinking what you'd do with a winning lottery ticket. Not trying to boast, but I wonder if my kids would appreciate it when I die or if it would just end up on a show like PAWN STARS? Probably be putting 'er up with a no reserve soon.
Life has it's zigs & zags..... A broken down auto and a good share of bills here. Hate to do it, but need to keep my boat a float and getting real bogged down as of late. The sale would hopefully knock out a bunch of demons that have been haunting us. This would hopefully be the knock out punch we need.....
I'd kinda like to explore some new avenues too. Really like to start fabricating some of my own stuff. Dreaming a little here, but there's always another door that opens when one closes.
Sorry guys, hope there's no ill feelings, as I did really plan on keeping this thing till my daisy pushing days. The last go round on eBay was truly legit, but just didn't pan out in the end. To be honest I wasn't really expecting it to even come close to selling then, but was willing to if it happened. Kinda relieved after it ended up with a flop. Probably pissed off a few prospective parties after the auction ended when the phone rang and I wasn't really in the mood for offers. I quoted a crazy number in efforts to put it to rest. Now frankly I'd almost take a little over what I've got into it, just to make life a lot more pleasant here. I'm still very blessed with a great family and fleet of Rs. My marriage has defiantly suffered over my ATV addiction. Hell I'm almost 2 months sober now from eBay. I've gone cold turkey and it's been kinda nice having more time. Unfortunately spare time now is spent putting in a new transmission in an '02 Dodge neon, that's barely worth the trouble. Just thought I'd explain myself before looking like a greedy attention whore. I'm sure many will still call BS and just scream "bid boosting".
Anyway, I've got to get the dam Neon put back together, allowing me room to get 'er down for current pics, so it might be a few weeks. BIG job here. Neon's getting a new trans, timing belt and a host of other miscellaneous worn out crap. Hope she runs again soon! Keep'n my fingers crossed!

With the enconomy the way it is I wish you the best of luck. Especially for that little girl. I don't really see what the big stink is over this. It's not like it is an origional shelby or something. It's a 25 yr old sand eating mud slanging 3 wheeler.

I really appreciate all the kind words of well wishes and PMed offers. I would love to sell it to anyone here before seeing it go to a non member, "PRIVATE" collection. Can only hope it would still be kept "as is" and shared with enthusiasts. I've got a few weeks here to give it some thought. Wish i had the capital to start a museum or could lease it to one. I was approached at one point for a future "planned" museum. Sounded like it was a far in the future idea though. Time to get a lotto ticket....
What a dilemma. Funny how things turn out sometimes. Almost a headache of torn feelings. No regrets though!
Thanks guys!

50 grand??!! Either that is not true or people are smoking crack. As much as I like 3 wheelers....it is a 3 wheeler! I wish I could piss away 50 grand like some people do.
Investing in a Oppurtunity such as this is not "pissing money away"... However,,Some Not having those funds shows former knowledge of how to ...

I saw the one get up to $50 grand. Is that this one? U had it for sale then and someone bid that high then backed out? Or there is another one?? Sorry for the questions. Either way....
I WANT IT!!!

No one is smoking crack NOOB! It hit $50k and the bidder backed out! This is a piece of trike history that will never come around again. NOOBS.......
He backed out b/c he realized what a stupid mistake he was making. He probably then went and invested in something that would actually appreciate more than a 3 wheeler. Don't get me wrong, 3 wheelers are great and I own a few of them: 2 Yamahas and 1 250R. But they are just atvs.
A piece of history? I would say it is a piece of history if it were actually rare and older than it is, but it isn't that rare. Who cares if the only people that touched it were some Japanese guys who didn't wash their hands after wiping their butts. The 250r's are a dime a dozen. There are more of those around, in all different conditions, than any other 3 wheeler! I have one in my garage as do many people on this forum. I also can type in 250r on ebay on any day at any time and find a nice one. Don't believe me? Go try it right now. Now if there were one or two made then we are talking rare! But 10's of thousands or maybe even 100's of thousands per year made? For every 1 tecate or 1 tri Z I see 10 250r's.
26 + -yr or two is not relatively that long in terms of "history". Just b/c you are stuck in the 80's doesn't qualify an item as rare or a piece of history. This really is more of a hobby then an archaeological find to study what people were like back in the 80's. You don't have to spend 50k. Just go look on youtube. Technology is pretty awesome.
Now 5k - 12k may be more realistic. 50K, I can't wait to watch some poor fool get screwed b/c he thinks kiss is going to pop out the gas tank high on the fumes and he can rock along. Must be fun to live in that kind of dream world.
Tattool, got some extra cash? I want to buy a new seat for my 250R on ebay. I heard Elvis sat on it and farted.

Dcreel u r correct.
What an trailpro. I'm not sure what u mean about the seat 3-wheelin. Just because I say I want it doesn't mean I'm gonna pay $50k for it. I'm just saying I would live to have it in my collection. If that's not y o u r thing then fine. It amazes me how someone can get so max and worked up only because they have a different OPINION (u should look up the meaning 3-wheelin) on something.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion. However, if you have nothing constructive to say, why start the drama? 50K to one man is like 5K to another man.....Sorry, but that is reality. It may not be in your cards, or mine for that fact. However, if you have the cash and want it....buy it. If not take a hike. As for rare....It is the only known NOS never built in the crate 250R. In my book that makes it rare. The 250R's I have and you have may be a dime a dozen, but show me another NOS one.....Right, you can't. :naughty: Again, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. 50K, 12K, 150K it doesn't matter, the market and the pockest of others will determine that. Have you looked at the price of old cars........
Good Luck with the sale! I hope you and the buyer are happy in the end. Buy that lotto ticket, you just never know. ;)

I believe between '85 and '86 R's there were right around 40,000 total produced. Going from that page with the production numbers that is. The one that's floating around on the boards here.

Thanks for the correction.
13k 86'rs made. So that would make the 86 Crate one even more rare, as I would guess 1/2 of the 86's have been pillaged as well.
In effort to keep a good thread clean..
The riff raff has been moved.
Good luck with the sale Buster.

With the enconomy the way it is I wish you the best of luck. Especially for that little girl. I don't really see what the big stink is over this. It's not like it is an origional shelby or something. It's a 25 yr old sand eating mud slanging 3 wheeler.
Pray for someone wanting to relive their childhood that has holes in their pockets. If you do well I'm sure glad my parents kept an origional boxed nintendo from 1985.
Wont be bidding, but I can't wait to see everyone else spend that cash!
I personally would not give a rats rear end about an "original shelby" or any other cars. my grandmother loved cars, great for getting groceries and such..this three wheeler is much cooler than any car.

Probably a couple weeks yet. My automotive project is still in the way. Thank god for the old '85 Honda XL350. Getting a bit chilly to ride at night though...
Thats Awesome i wanna see it Put together
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but really I could never assemble it. It would be really fun to do though. Most of us have all seen Mike's at Vintage. What fun it must be to assemble a NOS trike to 100% perfection.....
