Ive got a 1984 200x. I have bled the brakes and they lock up while I push it. When I am riding I can feel them slow me down some. Should they lock up while riding? I know that forward momentom is working against me but how good should the back brake work?

If it is locked up and dragging without you using the rear brake you have a problem. Mine were dragging, I could pry the pads off the rotor with a screwdriver to get it to spin freely. As soon as you would use the rear brake it would drag and hurt performance.

I replaced the caliper with a front 2003 CR85 caliper, its a bolt on. Works excellent now.

They do not drag when pushing the 200x. If I push it and hit the brakes they will lock the back tires up. They do not lock up while riding. Where did you get the caliper and how much money?

I got it off of Ebay for around $40 shipped with new pads. Bolts right on the 200x mount and removes the parking brake too.

But depending on the type of ground you are on how fast and how hard you hit the pedal my rear brakes lock up too. But the difference between the 200x brakes and the cr85 front caliper is a night and day difference.

Your caliperpiston is probably 'sticking' ...

Just remove the caliper - pop the piston out and remove the rubber seal in the piston cavity. 99% of the time the grooves the rubber seal sits in will be packed with corrosion ... take a propane torch and lightly play the flame inside and the corrosion will turn to dust. Just scrape it out, clean seals with brake fluid, reinstall and reinstall piston.

While your at it take some sandpaper and really clean the slider pin that the brake pads travel on - they tend to also get corroded causing the pads to stick.

No need to buy new caliper when in 30 minutes yours can begood as new with lil effort.

I think what he's saying is not that they are dragging but that they aren't strong enough the lock up the wheels. They should be able to even on pavement. That could be a master cylinder problem.

sounds like your seal is leaking

Bringing this back up. I installed a cr85 front caliper on the rear. Im about to go and bleed the brakes. I have little experience working on trikes so this is kinda a newbie/dumb question..... When I bleed the rear if I get fluid out of the bleeder do that mean my master cylinder is working properly?

i believe that means the master is working correctly, the master is pumping fluid out...unless your on an hill of somesort and its leaking out....the fluid should be squirting out when you crack that bleeder.....does anyone know if a cr85 front caliper will bolt up onto a 86 200x rear?
