i need some help on tuning a motor to make it really fast
so far what i know is to make it fast you need to bore the sleeve and get bigger cranks and about the head i dont have any idea but i know my basics on a motor
getting it jeted and bigger carb with a pipe will add some power but theres something im forgetting.

gearing is what makes it faster, motor mods is for horsepower or that's how i look at it

What are the goals of this motor? Do you want it to be a rider or just strictly drag? There is a fine line between the two once you cross into full drag

i want it to be a rider that can ride dunes and eat banshees at the same time.

Slightly tweaked stock motor will be just fine.

that makes absolutely no sense and neither is true .......

im new to tearing apart motors and working on them so dont expect me to exactly know what im doing thats why im asking.
such as repair im really fine but for improving a motor i am new.

yeah but alot of us never had the internet and search engines to gain vital knowledge . maybe start out with a bio,, what trikes do you currently have??? how long have you been riding trikes??? have you ever ridden a 250r? what parts do you have to start this build? do you have any fab skills ? will someone else be building this?

A stock 500 in good running condition will be putting out enough power to out run any stock banshees and many, many modded banshees. With a few, and I mean a few mods to the mighty 5, and it will EAT most anything in its path.

ya a stock 500 will toast banshees... i wish you posted this earlier i just sold the fmf off my 500. as for bigger cranks maybe your thinking of a longer stroke? if you want this thing to be even somewhat dependable leave the engine stock. my 500 i was using a new wrist pin bearing after a few rides and put new crank bearings in every summer. the 500's have the same size crank bearings as the cr 250 so theres a lot of stress there

I would love to build one of these as well. How much difference would running a 500 on alcohol with the bigger carb with a power jet on the carb and a pipe and silencer add over a stock 500? Do they sell adjustable timing plates for the 500 motor? Would this help at all?

About 15% overall. Very noticable. And yes to the adjustable timing--- PVL--- Google it. I ran FTZ alky carb and full drag pipe~~ both for sale as I stopped drag racing. Worked well even with stockish motor.

We sure dont see this out here. Massive built 500's, 544cc on alky with 2-3 overriden just dont perform very well. And if your comparing it to a cub banshee even at a small 421 on gas, its no comparision. There are a handful of smaller Puma, Rotax and Pro X 250R's out here that run away from well built 500 bikes. Just saying what we see...this site loves 500 builds, just adding a different twist to riders info.:beer
