i think the 250r was the only 3 wheeler with the chain on the right side
Converted first gen for sure. I like how they used washers as spacers. It also looks like inverted forks off of a dirtbike with custom tripples, extended swinger, extended axle, fiberglass fender, quite a bit of wierd stuff on it that i have never seen like what looks to be a plastic bowl. That would be a fun and intresting project. Looks like the engine was converted later in life. I wander what was originally in it for all that aftermarket stuff.

There has got to be an interesting story behind that thing. Did you buy it? Cut the foreplay and give us some details.
This has started bugging me a bit so i researched some. Just from the looks of the engine i would say it was from a 1979 - 1981 125GS/ RG engine. all KTM 250's looked alot diffrent from the era. Also, it looks like it was installed much later in life due to the nice clean washers used to line it up compared to the dirty engine. Also probly a back yard frankentrike because a reputable builder would have made a spacer and not used washers. It looks like it was once a very nice race machine. what is confusing me is the front for setup. It seems it would have been a within last 10-15 year upgrade.
Please tell me you have pics of the other one he is selling

hard to tell but that might be a lectron carb with a plastic bowl. bing made some plastic bowls also

I think KTM's of that era came with Bing carbs.
To the OP:
Did you buy this or is someone selling it?
I didnt even think about that..... old age getting to me. i wish there was a pic of the otherside of the engine so i can hunt down some more info.

almost positive thats a 1981 ktm 250 engine.
had one back in the day not this one though(i wish)
You could be right, but the 250s seem to have a more squared fins on the jug verses the 125. This pic is of an 1981 125.
Here is a close up of a 81 250 engine. Also notice how the vibration cushions differ from the 250 and the trike. the trike has 125 cushions?

very well could be a 125.... hopefully redrider200x can find the displacement on the cylinder or some more photos. this is bugging me now also....
i sent the owner an email asking for more pics. He also has something else i am intrested in.

KTM engines break down fairly easily. and are very expensive to repair. but when there running.. they can hold there own. the 525outlaw has a ktm powerhouse engine. and its breaking all sorts of 4stroke quad records.

Definitely not a stock 250r frame. Just looks like it has a 1st gen R gas tank smashed in on the front and maybe seat. Unique nonetheless.

Loooks lke a aftermarket swinger on a bike swap or something. The tank is 250R but the front end doesn't look right.

The KTM engined trike looks very much like a Frank's I recently saw. The converted 1st Gen 250R tank, 250R seat and aftermarket race cut lo-profile 1st Gen fenders make me think so. Also, the aluminum sprocket/disc guard in the rear, and the frame and the swinger is a Franks for sure.
Whadya say Bigbore? Am I right? :beer

the frame is defintly not a early r frame by any means thats not a factory frame that i have seen my bet is its a custom frame liek trickey dicks or nicholson or soemthign along those lines.

I sent him a message via craigslist yesterday morning and just got a message saying they are still for sale Thursday at 9 pm. This was before you claimed them Bigbore.
"Hello,
These are the pictures I have. This is the honda and the ktm. The bombardier is the same aftermarket frame as the ktm just a bombardier motor. Front and rear disk brakes, mono shock, both very soild.
The bombardier bike is more a project or parts baike it is all there but the carb and rear axle is out of it I do have it. It would and could be a great bike just never finished going thru it.
Thank you for resoponding

Becareful if anyone else wants to persue them. I've paid with Paypal and I'll be protected if he doesn't come through. If anyone else is going to pay for them and he's claiming to have sold them to you, I'd go with cash in hand and pick the bikes up while your there.
He's already said that he's getting them onto pallets and getting them ready for the freight company to pick up. I'm going to call him and find out whats going on.

Bigbore.. once I found out you had claimed them I was not interested. I posted the e-mail from him to let you know he said "money talks" I wouldn't do that to a member on here.
I'm just glad someone who appreciates rare trikes got them. Lets see lots of pics when you get them.
