View Full Version : Big Red 250ES crappy brakes
Every time I go out riding now I end up with no brakes by the end of the run, especially after a mud run. Now there is no adjustment left in them at all. I remember reading that the BR brakes are not great. Is there any way to solve this problem, or do I just have to replace the brake shoes all the time?

It is either that the drums are wore out, or there is a seal bad that is supposed to stop dirt from getting into the brakes and wearing them out quickly.

Drum brakes are never really all that fun to muck around with. Rusted nuts and bolts, and to top it all off the BR the drum is held on with two phillips head screws that you're bound to ruin, you might need and impact driver.
When you take the drum off there is a rubber seal that should be slightly greased to aid it in keeping the shoes dry.
Pull it apart and clean everything up, inspect your pads, with no adjustment left, theres most likely no pad left.
When you have it apart take the shaft that connects to the brake lever off and re-grerase that as well.
After you've replaced the pads and maintenanced everything, run a bead of grease around the drum seal before you button everything up.
Good luck
