I was wondering if it is possible to register a 3 wheeler in New York State so that you can ride on public trails. Any one with info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes you can if you have a registration ... if not you can "scratch" the vin on a paper from dmv and they will run it to make sure it isn't stolen

sure you can register a 3 wheeler. They are going to make your life a living hell with all the red tape involved with proving ownership, though.

I will try to find the vin and bring it to the dmv to make sure it isn't stolen and attempt to get it registered. I'm going on a bear hunt in the adirondacks and want to pull that bruin out....legally. There are tons of trails up there. Thanks.

I have 4 of my trikes registered.... here's the dealio....

You can have them registered, but the Public Trail system (Trail Pass) doesn't allow 3 wheelers.

The key to registering is either having one that has already been registered. (Cake) or having the Cert of Origin (cake) ....

If you buy a trike from someone, make sure you trust it's not stolen. Have them put a sale date of over a year ago on the Bill of Sale. NYS isn't as bad as you think if you have it in your possession for over a year they are more laxed. (Easier but not cake) They have a pre-typed ATV bill of sale form you can pick up too. They like it better if it's on thier paper.

Different DMVs are more strict than others.... if one gives you a real hard time, go to a different one! I have used digital pictures printed with a pencil scraping to double verify the VIN. They also said you could have a cop/sheriff read the vin for you and give an affidavid

Good luck!

I sort of have 2 trikes registered now.

My 350X I registered with a transferable registration I received from the previous owner.

My 200E came with the certificate of origin.... I sold that trike but accidentally renewed the registration last week (i mixed up the plate numbers thinking I was renewing the 350x).

I have gone through the vin scraping and paperwork with a moped before. It is not quick but as long as the bike was never stolen and it hasn't been registered in a few years you can make it happen.

You got rid of the Big Red eh?? You see I got a TriZinger now?? I haven't had time to do anything with it yet... still messing around getting the barn setup.

You ought to come down sometime this fall and give me a reason to ride! hahahaha

Yeah I finally had to let the Big Red go.

I traded my other 110 for the zinger, I got the short end of the deal but I wasn't using the 110 anyways. I am doing a few mods to the little trike now, just enough to keep it faster then my buddy’s zinger. :D

I don't think you have seen my 350 yet, we should ride one of these weekends. I checked it over today because I might to a group ride near Cortland or up on Tug Hill next weekend.

I haven't been up on the Hill yet. I got the trike registered and insured so I could, I just haven't made it up there.
