Hello, I'm new to 3 wheelers so bare with me! I have a 1981 Yamaha YT 125 Three wheeler. I recently broke the pull starter so I got another one off of Ebay. I put the starter on and for some reason it's like it's getting hung up on something? It won't recoil until I loosen the screws that hold the starter assembly on. Also when it does go to start it's like thewhen the motor is turning over the starter is catching on something? Also, I noticed the large nut that is located in the middle of where the starter assenmbly bolts is loose. Is this normal? Is this part of the crank? I tightened down that nut to see what would happen and it just loosened itself up apperently from me attempting to start the 3 wheeler. Apparently it spinning that way and loosening this nut. Any ideas from anyone? Sorry I pretty much know nothing about pull starts and 3 wheelers. Thanks in advance for any help. Cody

I'm not that familliar with pull start models but if you have any technical questions, they will be better answered in the Trikesylvania forum, just so you know. The open forum is geared more towards topics that don't involve 3 wheelers

What broke on the old one, can you put the two together and Have one good one? As for the new starter and problem look to make sure that the starter cage on the flywheel is not bent or anything also how does the roller look inside the pull start clean it up and lube it up, also wind the recoil spring a couple times so it pulls the rope in it harder, also check that the starter pawl and spring is working correctly and no it's not normal for that nut to be loose, try putting thread lock on it. Good luck and here's a link to a PDF file of exploded views for your trike http://www.3wheelerworld.com/SMYamaha.shtml
