I just got done making new gaskets for the BR and put her all back together with no leaks, but now it has no spark.

Took her all apart again and everything looks good, can someone tell me where i should start to look for issues?

I really want to ride it, its been 3 weeks since i got it, and i have worked all the other issues out, this is the last one, and my thumb is itchin for the throttle ;-) :beer

did you clean the fly wheel? with what you did you really shouldn't have lost spark? Make sure every thing is plugged in properly and also check your plug wire that is what happened to my auto x

Yeah, i did clean it off with a rag, no oil on it when i put it back together. Ill have to pick up a plug wire from somewhere, i just borrowed a multimeter to test some things, not sure how/where to start but ill start somewhere im getting really trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro irritated because every time i fix one problem and want to ride, another one comes my way!

Look at Troubleshooting, page 198 (section 19) in the manual.

you know you ride three wheeler's when "im getting really irritated because every time i fix one problem and want to ride, another one comes my way!

hahaha yeah, i just got it 3 weeks ago and i have not had the chance to even ride it yet lol

Im running down the the sled shed and getting a new plug wire, ill start there, then if its not that, i guess its the ole cigarette in the tank trick ;-)

Well... Got a new plug wire and that was not the problem i guess, still no spark.... Looks like its time to test some things, Coil here i come you little booger LOL :wondering

Well the manual shows what parts to check and it also shows how to check the continuity for the switches but what about testing the other things like the CDI, pulse generator, ignition coil etc etc....?

EDIT*** There is continuity, for both positions on the stop switch, i guess i am to stupid to type LOL

How can i bypass this to see if it will fire again without the stop switch?

It had spark before you dissasmbeled it?

Yeah it had spark and ran fine, the only issue it had that made me tear it apart was an oil leak from a hole in the case, and bad gaskets, so i fixed those and put it back together and no spark.... however does the lack of proper continuity in the kill switch indicate its bad, or is that not my issue?

EDIT*** Cannot type again :-)

Hard to say offhand. I know lots of people read the diagrams wrong or test incorrectly. Then they wind up replacing all kinds of parts when they didnt need to. I think its unlikely your kill switch just died. I would look somewhere else. But, it could be it, who knows. I always start by checking for a good ground before anything. Good Luck.

all the kill switch does is ground so just unplug it for now

I unplugged it and still nothing... But it is showing continuity when i unplugged to test it (for both positions)... All the other tests came out fine so far, going to test the ignition coil next, i just put new plug wires and plug on lastnight...

EDIT*** I typed the wrong thing, it HAS continuity in both the "on" and "off" positions...

then somethins shorted on the harness. you can get a complete replacement harness for liek $20 shipped off ebay. i picked up 2 of them. ;)

Did you weld the case? It sounds like a bad ground to me.

I tried looking for the ground on the frame, but could not see it, i really didn't have the time, so ill have to look tomorrow, where is it located?

When i went back like an hour later to check some more things, i got a different reading off of the same 2 wires for the kill switch... ODD

No i never had it welded just did the JB weld for now, trying to save some cash flow...

the ground is under the tank ... it is bolted along with the coil

Ever figure it out? I seem to be having the same problem.

Naw, i had the whole family thing going on all weekend, it was one thing after another, so ill be taking a look see tomorrow some time!! I saw the ground screw and it looked fine other then being dirty, but i had no issues with it running before i took it apart... Im getting very irritated! This isnt my first time fixing my machines either

Well i retested everything and the only thing that does not check out as far as ohm readings go is the stator... According to the manual it is supposed to read betweek 100-400ohms and mine read 000.1ohms....

That would mean its bad right? Everything else is in spec range, but how would this go bad just being unplugged and set aside to fix the hole in the case, and this would cause a loss of spark right?

juggaloclownz18

Anyone live near me, that has one i can test on my machine?

What exactly did you unhook or remove thats electrical related?

juggaloclownz18
08-17-2009, 08:59 AM
Well before i lost spark, nothing other then the stator when i took the side cover off to fix the hole in the case, and make a new gasket, but i was super extra careful of the stator when i took it off... I never got the fly wheel off so i didn't touch anything behind that...

Since then i have tested every electrical connection and quadruple checked there all fine, only unhooked them one at a time so i know those are all fine, and the readings were good on everything but the stator, that was supposed to be between 100-400ohms and only read 000.01ohms...

Do you think something could have "worked loose" inside the stator like all those small wires that are wrapped around it etc etc...?

oscarmayer

it's possible. whenthey die, they jsut quit. i had a stator die on the middle of a trail once. that's a tuffy to troubleshoot on the trails let alone fix. lol.

Damit, anyone know where i can get a cheap one other then from eGay for $65?

I know from now on, my multi-meter will be a necessary part of my tool kit ;-)

Do i need to replace the whole stator or would it be just the "stator primary coil" which is located inside the stator with the other ones?

AutoXer
08-17-2009, 05:08 PM
the exciter coil is about $20 shipped ... not a huge deal ..... pull the fly wheel and solder it in

juggaloclownz18
08-18-2009, 08:46 AM
Well after careful sober inspection of the stator again, i realized that the "primary stator ignition coil" inside the stator is defiantly fried out, at least i feel better knowing what the issue is, now to buy another one :-)
