I need to know this info kinda fast but i have the option to buy a 86 250sx rear. Do i need the swing arm or am i ok buying the axle and brake drum and housing. I know the 86 was superior since it prevented the water intrusion the 85 had but what parts would i need. Do i need the swinger or would an 85 swinger and differential work?

Here is a pic. Will buying this eliminate my water problems? How much would this be worth?

The rear will interchange, the parts on the picture will fit directly on the 85 swing arm,the only difference between 85-86 swing arm is the conception, the 86 is better but do the same job.I have a 86 rear on my 85 sx

didnt jeff just restore your old one? As long as all seals are fresh and you take care of the rear end youll be fine. Its from the years of abuse that really trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro the rear ends

Yeah, I don't think the axle should be covered in rust like this.

I didnt think it was in that bad of shape. Nothing a little bead blasting couldnt fix. He told me he would take 125 for swinger and rear assembly. However I trust your guys' judgement and thank you! DeePa - yes jeff did but i figured this could be something i could work on for next winter or something. I do want to take my sx out on trails and through ponds but I just know that the 85's are not sealed the greatest and it has got me paranoid.

Thanks!
Jim

If your going to take it thru water ANY YEAR will be vulnerable. 86-87 is superior sure, but if your going to swamp it and whatever you'll be tearing it down and greasing it a whole lot more often.

Well im not going to swamp her but playing in ponds and creeks is fun thats all. I will let this one go then. Jeff - called the powder coater about the threads...he said no problem. Should have soon:w00t:

Take it thru as much water as you wish, just tear it down every year and inspect it.......

Unless I'm off my rocker, that axle tube you have there is useless without the 86 swingarm. I didn't think that the 86 brake arrangement could be used on an 85 swinger. The axle, spacers etc are all different.

It does look like junk anyhow so skip it. Ask Jeff for the NOS one.......

NOS is not going anywhere. But for $1200 I can let her go I guess.
