I just picked up a 85 250es big red for next to nothing. it runs great but the problem is that the gears arent fully engaging. most of the time it will hit first and second fine but wont go into third, it just slips back into neutral. it will slip out of gear while riding. sometimes it will skip third and go strait into 4th or 5th. sometimes you can try to shift and you can hear it trying to go into gear but its almost like the shifter is not moving far enough for it to go into gear, if that makes sense. i fixed the shifter as it was stripped out on the lever. i have the skills to fix it, and also have a service manual but i need to know what to fix. any ideas?
