200m Axel

Howdy,
My axel has some play in it. Wondering if I can just tighten up the nuts to get rid of the play, or if this is an indicator that something else is wrong.

The nuts keep pressure on the hear axle bearring in the housing. If you tighten them WAY too tight, it will cause a new bearring to wear out prematurely. Try tightening them up a ways, and if that dosnt take care of it, its probly time for new axle bearrings and seals. (parts unlimited bearrings are $8 a piece, and seals are $4 or so, pretty cheap........) A good thing to do after you tighten the nuts is to get the rear end off the ground a give the axle a good spin to ensure they are not too tight. It should spin for a little bit after you spin it, but not for more than a couple seconds, or the tension is too loose. Hope this helps. ------- Jon.

Thanks, I tightned the nuts down and it seems good now. =)

Inner drum nut 25-33 ft. lbs. (first), then the outer drum nut 87-101 ft. lbs. (hold the inner nut to prevent turning).

From that repair manual (pg. 149).

Ahh thanks, I dont have a torque setup to fit that. What kind of setup would you need to torque nuts like that? Thanks

Neither do I, had to wing it. I did the inner one, pretty much as Yamaha Rules69 explained, it was pretty snug, then I tighten the crap out of the outer one, to lock it against the inner one. All the had was a crescent wrench.

you could use a torque wrench and crows feet. Both you can get at autozone

yup no problem they work for more than just that tho ther great for the hard to get to spots when you want a rachet
