what kind of oil goesa in the crank case of a 81 250r?
The "Crank" case runs on the Pre-mix in the Fuel, The "gear" box, you can run some mineral oil-10w40 Men't for bikes, Or some of the fancy bike Gear oil- 75-90 or Close.

You mean gearbox? I personally just use a decent quality 10w40 motor oil, but many on here swear by Gear Saver

You can run ATF in the transmission as well, only in a 2 stroke engine.

So, nothing wrong with using the gear saver oil? does the heavy weight just cause you to get a little less MPG? No downsides?

I use honda gn4 10w40 in my aircooled 250r's and all my 4strokes too.
