I have a few questions about the 250sx. I just bought 2 of them, each with its own problems.
The First 250sx does not have front brakes so I am in the midst of buying parts from members on here like "hublake" and then attempting to rebuild myself.
I bought new bearings for the front but I can not remove the old ones. Do I use a hammer and punch to slowly work the bearings out of the tube or is there a special tool ? Secondly when I put the front brake cap on the drum with the metal tube holding the bearings in place there is not a tight seal, should it be like this or should it seal tight perfectly ?
lastly my other 250sx has a sort of low patched creaking sound coming from the back wheel with rotation.(the one without the brake), is this a rear bearing problem ?
thanks for the input guys ! I am leaning a lot about these !

punch and hammer and slowly work out as you mentioned. there will be a very slight gap, remember the thing has to spin if it's tight it will bind. it should have a slight seal only. enough to keep dirt out.
these are "shaft driven" so you are problemy going to have to star by draining the fluid, then instpecting for internal rust and or damage trhough the full plug. if it looks ok, then it may be just wheel bearings or even a u-joint. first look for any loose nuts and bolts. tighten them down then see if it's still making noise if so, it's probelby time to tear into it, and that's not a simple task for sure.
I have to do a rear end rebuild on my 250sx project and I'm not looking forward to it.

The noise from the rear end sounds like a bearring problem to me from the way you described it. To remove the front bearrings I usually do it like you are - with a hammer and punch or hammer and chizzel. Sometimes you have to beat the living hell out of them before they will go. Make sure to hit the outside of the bearring, thats the race that has to come out. If you can get a long enough chizzel, and hit it hard enough, it could split the bearring in half, or crack it a bit, allowing for an easier time. Also, I would recommend heat from a propane torch. Get it real hot, then give it hell. Good luck!

Wow this bearing removal is going to be tough ! I am not looking forward to it at all ! I hope getting them in will be easier.
I am hoping it is just a bearing job for the back as well as a shaft problem sounds expensive. The sound really sounds like its coming from the wheel and not the box holding the shaft in it. which I like .
I am spending enough with my first 250sx....I bought it not knowing what I was getting into...turns out I need to get it rebored and new piston / timing chain and stuff to stop the blue smoking... gonna cost me over $1000 at the honda shop are all that stuff. bah.

The problem is more than likely your punch. You can't be much bigger than 3/8" or you can't cock the punch far enough to catch the edge of the bearing. Sometimes I grind the end at a slight angle, and use the point of that angle on the race. I've used 3/8 rod to get thing started, then move up to a real punch :D You almost have to push or cock the punch as you whack it. Another trick is to set up the sharp punch and then jam something else in there so the punch can't walk away from the race while your beating on it......
Putting them in is chicken, just only hit the OD of the bearing with a socket of piece of tubing....
