Well I got the frame powder coated, shock spring, pegs, fender brackets, brake pedal and other stuff. I bought two engines out of PA that I found on craigslist for the build. I also had the front rim and hub powder coated black to match the rear ITP Baja black rims. The motor has a great crank and trans. I had the cylinder checked out at Brewer Cycles and honed with new a new piston and rings. I'm happy that I don't have to spend boat loads of money on motor work. I put a sweet G-Force axle + 4 inches for a Banshee from RMATV, Black Baja 8" rims with Fast Trekker 18x11x8's on the rear from EastCoastATV. They make the bike look sweet but I know they are not designed for the trail because of ground clearance. Oh I sand blasted the cylinder to show off the shine underneath. I'm trying to put this together in two weeks for a ride that me and ten friends are going on to Busco Beach in NC. The pipe is a Jemco with a DG silencer. I'll post other pics as I build this sweet ride. I'm also building a true 86 Tri-Z at the same time. I've been looking, saving, and piling parts over the last eight months for this build and the 86. I still need 2 kick starters and some yellow shrouds. Brrrraaapppp!

Thanks guys, hey do you have any pics of your project from Canada? That would be awesome to see pics and get ideas. When I get done I will have 5 Tri-Z's, the first 3 are the all stock 85, 85 1/2, and 86. The 2 I'm building at the present are going to have an aggressive look with black rims, low profile tires, wide axles, and after market exhausts!

Well I put some more parts on the Tri-Z today. I cleaned all the electric components like the stator, CDI, coil, and any wires. Simple Green is my best friend LOL. Installed the radiators and hoses/clamps. Scrubbed the thermostat to a shine. Well I kicked about ten times but would not start, had spark, no sign of fuel but float bowl had fuel so I took off fly wheel and reset stator plate and started with second kick. Now the head is leaking coolant so tomorrow head is coming off.http://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z107.jpghttp://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z115.jpghttp://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z108.jpghttp://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z117.jpg

Thanks guys, hey do you have any pics of your project from Canada? That would be awesome to see pics and get ideas. !

really like seeing your project ,I have been posting a few pics at planet trike as I dont need to mess with resize and converting them as I am lazy and slow witted ,dont totally understand what I would need to do here to post pics, and that process could potentially sap all my trike building energy,so instead I will go sit and look and dream and maybe assemble another piece or possibly few,but please keep the pics comeing its looking sweet.I thought I had problems with toys but its good to look at your pile cause it will be awhile before I had 5 of the same machines to clean ,polish and maintain, and to realize I lack the commitment of a true eccentric

I got up and went to the shop to figure out the leaking head gasket problem. I disassemble the top end and took a head off of another engine that I'm getting ready to build and retorked the head bolts. That fixed the problem because the leaking head was never decked. I took it to my near by machine shop to get milled. I put new coolant and the rest of the parts back on. I installed new OEM rear plastics and new graphics I had made at a near by sign shop. The seat is a CosmicQuad seat with new foam and cover with the "Yamaha" stenciled on the rear to have that factory look! I'm still waiting for a 42 rear sprocket since I'm running 18" rear tires. Its coming from Parts Unlimited so it should be tomorrow and can install the chain and sprocket combo. The front wheel is a 86 running a 23" tire. Its looks good paired up with the 18's on the rear. The swing-arm is stock length. I can,t wait to break it in and check for leaks and lose bolts. I'm ready to ride!http://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z122.jpghttp://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z123.jpghttp://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z124.jpghttp://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss227/gutterworks129/Tri-Z125.jpg

Hey "dirtbag" thanks man, these builds are fun to do. Well Tammy at CosmicQuad told me save my pics onto photo bucket, copy and paste the photo to 3wheeler world and it worked! I got frustrated at first because I was not doing it right but I never gave up. I saw guys posting large pics and I said to my self I wanted to that. I don't like the "links". I like to see big pictures! Good luck bro!

The gearing felt good going from a 44 to a 42, plus it helped on ground clearance but not much. Me and about 6 guys are going to Busco Beach in NC on Friday afternoon to ride. Then I can really get some time on the bike.

Nice work and looks to be future works on the horizon to look forward to as well. By the way your garage has a dajavou feeling to it....like all those ZZZZZ! Dude straight out of my dreams....got room in the corner next to the dog for me?

note to self: gutter biz is good in N.C. must have cut yourself 1000 times to get them trikes.

You have some good looking Z's there . I restored a yellow red combo 85 z and a 85 1/2 red , black Z with a plus 8 " swingarm , sold both bikes to buy other toys . They are great bikes . Keep up the good work .

Thanks guys for the comments, its been a blast to build a Tri-Z that was considered junk found in a box scattered over the USA. The bike ran and rode great this weekend. I was beating stock YFZ450 on the drap strip this weekend. Anything over 500ft they were catching me. It did its job, I'm happy. The 86 is coming lol!
