2 Stroke cranks.....

Someone had shown a cr4ank that self destructed and the outside liner came apart.

Does anyone know WHY they wrap some model cranks with that thin tin can type material and or it's purpose??

Crankcase volume and crankcase pressure. Its also a light weight way to make a full circle crank (for the earlier mentioned reasons) Honda is about the only one that does the tin wrap around the webs.

So I guess if I chopped one off, I wouldn't see a full circle?? That smooth liner must help in cutting down turbulence within the crank housing itself......

The one that exploded was an aftermarket crank, may have been "Hot Rods".

I had a hotrod crank in my old FL350, it blew into about 100 pieces at the rod. Taking it to a shop, the crank was not balanced correctly.

I bought a new crank through honda, never had an issue again.

I have seen cranks exploded at the big end and even cranks broken in 2, everytime its almost a REBUILT crank that was not properly balanced.
