Went on another solo ride to Cinders. I'm liking this place more each time I go. The first time I went a few years ago I hated it. The 7000ft elevation was causing me tuning problems with the R, the dust was outrageous and my suspension was not dialed in for it at all which made for a miserable ride.

LATELY though, I've been taking the 350x. No tuning. I just swapped the Uni with a better flowing K&N and left the airbox lid off. Very far from perfect tuning but the bike is managing to get around ok. I had some issues the first time a couple weeks ago but none on this ride. Also, no dust issues when you're alone. :D

This was my first trip with my new GoPro helmet camera. I have a ton of pics and vids from that but this first batch is with my old camera.

I managed to make it to the top of a pretty good sized hill. I was surprised I made it because I was running knobbies for the first time. Most people run molded paddles tires at this place.

The views from top of some of these hills really can't be appreciated in pictures.

Here's a pic I took using the GoPro. You can't really tell but I was actually moving. I mounted the camera on the headlight and put it in "picture every five seconds" mode. These pics come out way better than I could have hoped. I was really surprised. Very cool option on the GoPro. If there had been some other riders there I would have gotten some sweet shots with this. I'll post a few more in a little bit.

Nice shots D@mmit! The dirt looks really nice with just the right amount of moisture.

Side note: If your camera has exposure bias settings, I would expose the pictures a little less next time. Your photos will look a bit richer if you do.
Using spot metering mode might help too, keep the sky from blowing stuff out.

There's not even a drop of moisture there. It's not even dirt for the most part. It's tiny bits of volcanic rock. Weird stuff.

My old camera does have those settings. The problem is, the screen is tiny so I can't tell how they're coming out until I get home. I just try several different settings. Some of them are bound to come out good.

WOW!! Awesome pics and what a place to ride with that view :D

What was wrong with the X? You had an issue last time you went out I thought?

What was the temperature that day, IDK how you guys can deal with the heat. I couldn't even drink beer if I lived down there

This GoPro camera is cool man. I'm digging it. The quality isn't the best ever or anything but for $135 it's impressive.

I have no idea how big this place is but it's definitely large. I haven't seen it all.

I haven't seen any of the dangerous critters there yet but it wouldn't surprise me if they were around. I've seen small rodents running around which means the snakes should be there but snakes avoid people for the most part. I've seen what looks like scorpion holes. I have seen Elk running around there though. Lots of flies there yesterday.

Edit: Not many rules as far as I can tell. Flags aren't required. I don't even think helmets are required. AZ residents are supposed to have registration and the new OHV sticker. Not sure about how they handle non-residents. Haven't seen a ranger there yet anyway.

The X started leaking oil from a cheap hack of a repair the previous owner did. I replaced the broken stator cover. It also started running like crap towards the end of the day but my theory was that the K&N pre-filter was clogging with dust and just making it run too rich. I ran it without the pre-filter this time and there was no change in how it ran from the beginning of the day to the end. It still runs way, way rich up there. I'm just too lazy to change the jetting.

Temperature was 82 degrees while I was there. Probably a little hotter than normal for that location.

Still got a LOT more stuff to post. I'm in the process of figuring out some stuff on the video end. Here's a short one that I haven't edited at all. I mounted the camera to the headlight which completely borked up the sound for some reason (vibration I assume). Turn your speakers down.

Trying to do the audio swap on that one but the preview function isn't working for me. :wondering

More still pics from the GoPro.

There's no preview screen with this thing so I didn't realize how far away things look until I got home. Note to self; stand closer to the bike next time.

No paddles this time huh? Looks fun.

Reminds me of the trail riding at Little Sahara, cept it sand and loose rock instead of volcanic rock.

   I was talking to a native AZ resident at my Payson AZ ride and our conversation ended up talking about that movie. She told me two interesting things. The filming of that scene with Aunt Edna being dumped on the back porch was actually filmed in Flagstaff, not Phoenix as the subtitle suggests, which may explain the rain  ....it never rains here  and second.....her mother is an extra in the scene with chevy chase and christie brinkley in the swanky motel with his newly acquired snazzy white shoes......no way to confirm either story but I have no reason not to believe her...
