I went to replace the pads and now I can't get the caliper back on. It's like the mount had adjusted out and I can't get it to go back. The repair manual does not mention anything about the mounting bracket. When I go to put the caliper on with the new pads, the mounting bracket hits the rotor. What am I doing wrong?

Did you collapse piston in either by hand or with C-clamp?? New thicker pads may be throwing ya' off?? Just a guess, good luck.:beer

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have pushed back the piston all the way. I think my adjusting sliders are froze up. What is the best way to fix that? I need these rear brakes because my son rides steep hills and I don't think he can handle it without them!

i bet you a beer your pads are not pushed all the way back in because of your parking brake adjuster is screwed in to far. you see when you adjust the parking brake, you limit the amount the piston will go back, no matter how hard you squeeze it with a "c "clamp.
unloosen and back out the parking brake bolt, push that piston and pad wide open , and viola' , slip it right over your rotor, with those nice new thick pads :) no off-set bracket needed , no grinding down one pad ;)

Sounds like the slide pins, could be the E Brake too though IF you even still have it....

Those pins lock up with thin pads and then the new pads don't fit. They can be horrible to free up and you'll need new rubbers at the least.

You can try propane and c clamps etc tec, any damage you do will come back to haunt you :(

Regardless, esp if ya run in wet terrain, ya have to take apart and lube them pins at least once a year, more is better :D

I bet 60% of the calipers from ATC's on EBAY have dry and or seized slide pins .....

Really you have to buy at least a few calipers to make one good one.

It is the sliders, I have the piston pushed all the way back to where it is flush with the face of the caliper. Thanks for the replies guys, I try to get them unstuck. Not looking good though, the allen head I can't even budge, broke a cheap socket in half trying to get it (I was using a socket over a short allen bit).

I was able to get some pins freed up heating the area with a heat gun, regardless you will still need new rubber seals for the slide pin. I have also drilled them out just slightly undersized and then I was able to peel the remaining outer shell of the pin out. It's a pain, but it will save a caliper with a badly stuck pin.
