Hey, how involved is it to fix a intermittent kickstarter issue on a 200x? Is it a major case-splitting fix? Yah, I was checking out the 200X in the classifieds. It seems like a decent deal but the kickstarter issue worries me a bit........I'm in no hurry, just kind of looking for the right deal or something that says'"Buy me!".

So that does seem like an OK deal doesn't it ???

Any input on this thing would be appreciated. THX

That's what I'm trying to find out. I'm new to trikes And actually just found out there are some differences in the 83-85 and the 86-87's. The one in question is an 84.

You have to pull the clutch cover

the return spring requires you to split the case

Any more input? This is again an 84 so 86,87 info won't help me unless it's similar.
I'm not afraid of splitting the case. It won't shy me away from a purchase as long as it's not a $500 part that usually goes bad and I'll need another $500 in special tools.THX again

An 84 model 200x with a slipping kicker will require you to split the center cases or basically take the entire motor apart to fix it . Not for the beginner .

Yah, I just talked to the guy on the phone. We may work out a trade. He says 9 out of 10 times it works then out of the blue you go to kick it and ........SLIP!!!!!! Maybe I'll have to rethink this. So the case will definitely have to be split??

Well, just so ya know, I'm older (too old for a trike according to my wife) and have been inside engines more than a few times(cars). I know you say not for beginners but do you mean a virgin teenager ???? LOL or beginner to HONDA four strokes.

I had a 400EX and own an older VT Shadow that I've done alot of work on. I just haven't had to pull the jugs or split the case in anything. I wouldn't be afraid of it. I've just never done it.......unless it's REALLY that hard.

He's busy this weekend but we're supposed to hook up sometime next week so I need some YAYS or NAYS..............

anyway, hope I'm not rambling and I appreciate ALL the responses positive or negative so any more opinions let em fly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

some times you can back cut the gears ... there was a better shaft on e-gay that was suppose to help. If you know it might do it ... you could just be careful kicking it ... it tends to want to twist your ankle though LOL

Sounds like you could do it . If it just slips sometimes the spring that presses the ratchet kicker gears together is weak and needs replacing . Hope this helps
