well i tried black RTV and letting it cure for a couple of days before a final tighten of the bolts. is there a special sealer from Honda or something, or what's the best way to do it?

I dont use any sealant on them and have never had a leak. Did you replace the seals?

Maybe you have a warped cover.

well i had it sealing at first. then after a couple of break in rides around the field it started to leak. maybe honda sells some special gasket maker for it. i wish they just sold a gasket for it. i don't think we are talking about the same part eric. you may be talking about the inspection covers that come with o-rings in them.

You mean the whole valve cover with rocker box??

Stone or fine file any imperfections off of the mating surfaces, then use Yamabond, Hondabond or 3bond on both sides.

Apply with an acid or small paint brush, let set for 5 minutes, torque all the bolts and it should be SAWEEEET!! :D

nice. the yamabond works good. that is what i thought of using. i use it in on snowmobile motor cases. thanks for confirming. at least yamaha makes one good thing. is it fully cured after the 5 minutes and tightening the bolts? or does it need cure time?

It skins over in 5 and then I usually let it set for a few hours or overnight.......

I should clarify, leave the parts apart for 5minutes, then assemble and torque. Then let sit, oil later and your good!

Those are the valve covers, you must mean the rocker box. That also has a rubber seal and shouldn't leak if both surfaces are clean and strait.
