no spark 250r 1984

i have a 84 250 and last winter it ran fine around january.. havent ridden it somce then, now its july and i cant get spark for some reason! anyone know how to trouble shoot a ignition system on these? my leg is getting tired.

How does the plug look?

plug is wet. tried another plug and kicked it over trying to see spark, no luck, also tried to remove the boot and see if a spark jumped to the head from the wire.. nothing. .. i pulled the switch apart and ohm'd the stop run stop switch, working.. ohm'd the spark plug boot, and wire, good.... dont know how to ohm the coil or what readings to look for on that..

also pulled tre generator cover off.. dry inside... removed ignition coil and checked ground, good.

I found out on my 1984 250r that there was No spark coming out but if I put my hand on the spark plug and kicked it I got shocked the hell out of. I actually touched the spark plug to the engine and i seen nothing OO but it was there believe me. This just happened a month ago. It was the stupid carburetor that was clogged.

The manual comes up fine for me. Get a meter and start testing. 75% of the time it's a corroded and or bad connection and when you start taking things apart to test them, you usually find it.

I'd start by testing the stator. Out of all the electrical components, stators are the 1st to go and coils/CDI's are fairly bulletproof. The kill switch usually grounds to shut it off so unless there is a short to ground, it's probably not the KS. Simply unplug the kill switch to eliminate it as a problem.......

what year stators are compatable with a 1984 250r?

81r-84r stators should work.

ok i ohmed the exciter coil, and i can only get a reading of 260k ohm resistance, the manual said 250 ohms of resistance.. so im assuming its bad, along with nicks see if the black and red wire shoots a spark test as i kick it over.. didnt spark.. so must be the dang stator! i wish i could find a affordable one ebay they are expensive!!!! guess it will have to sit for some time.

i forgot i had a 2nd motor!!! and it has a good stator by the OHM test i just gave it!! now to figure out how to get the damn flywheel off to get to it to remove!

well i replaced the sator and now shes a runner.. the flywheel came off my extra engine easily with the puller but would not thread into the flywheel on the trike so i had to weld a nut on it and use a bolt to push it off.. what a ordeal! anyhow runs good now! yee haw! now just need to get 3 tires that are not flat and put in the new rear wheel bearings.. thanks for the help

thanks saul! the rear fenders are BAD..... and the front forks seem to have no rebound dampning, they are like pogo sticks... i dotn know if they are outa fluid or what.. anyone know of a good tire option for the front? as far as size and brand model.. nothing to expensive, i hope to spend less then 60 bucks.

well pulled the carrier out and stuff tonight! damn carrier was cracked in half, and the bearings were riding on the spacer making grooves in it! anyone know where to get a cheap carrier? dang it i wouldnt have ordered a tire if i would have known this was bad! stupid me! heres some pictures, so now im sitting here with new bearings and seals and a cracked in half carrier!!! the HORROR!
