I'll tell ya the 250SX sucks to get off. You've either got to spin the carb or remove the cable at the throttle for one - and the dam choke line plastic threads suck - then the thing barel squeezes out of that frame - I usually take out the air box to make life easier  But I'm sure there's a few dooozies out there to remove so who's got the worst one??

I have an 86 200x, you have to take out airbox, which includes removing fenders which are tied on in from cuz they arre 85 instead of 86 fenders
:( ,then remove the boot from carb to airbox which can take 10 seconds to 10 minutes...its a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro sometimes, then you have to unbolt the carb, first nut is easy, but the back one on the inner side isnt as easy to get off, THEN you have to get the damn thing off, which it doesnt like to come off if its not pulled perfectly straight! then you muct take off cap and takeout slide and remove cable and such, then reverse the process to get it back on! lol it sux!

well....mines nice and easy :-P :-P :-D , i got an 84 250R with an off the carb k&n air filter, just pop off the filter, then loosen the clamp, and pull the carb out, and when you put it on, put a little 2 stroke oil on the inside of the intake manifold and it slides right in

my red is easy -- probably because I've screwed with the jetting and everything so many times. Does anyone's 200es idle like it should?

350X is pretty easy but getting that hose on the airbox side to go on all the way can be rough. I swear when I tighten the clamp it pops out half way on one side everytime.

'97 RM80 w/o realizing you're supposed to take off the left side frame section that goes from the top/rear of the frame down towards the engine. My friend did this the other day. After he told us how it took him forever to get the airbox out (I think the airbox was the main holdup.) we noticed the bolts holding that frame section on.

Hoses are the worst part! Ya go through all that trouble to have a nice clean carb and filter and then the intake tubes won't slip back on or the clamps for the tubes bottom out before they really hold anything!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!

I AGREE!! that stock clamp on the airbox side of the carb does not do squat once you do get it all on!!!!

that carb for a 86 200x is the worst to get off. I pulled it off and cleaned it for my friend and it took me well over an hour, you have to remove the airbox, intake tube, etc. I thought it was hard to get a 38 a/s on a 85r, atleast you don't have to remove the rear shock like I had to on a 85r.

Jay this is a common problem especially on the 350X. the easiest way to eliminate this is to put the airbox side on first and clamp it till the bolt bottoms out. then push the carb into the intake boot and tighten it down till the bolt bottoms out. if you try to do the carb side first you'll never get it.

now the reason this happens is over time the boot shrinks due to the fumes effect on the rubber. to compansate for this remove the boot and soak it in keroseen for a couple of hours. this will expand the rubber. becarefull how long it soaks you can go to far and then it will have a loose fit on the carb

I tried loosening the intake side and pulling the carb back, but it didn't work too well. I couldn't hold it in and clamp it at the same time. You're right, I need to remove it and clamp the airbox hose on first with both pieces off. They put such a nice sealing double lip on the intake side, why couldn't they have done that on the airbox side?

PS: Did you get my wiring harness and other pieces shipped out yet??

the carbs have been basically okay,,, like i read in some of the above post,,, it's the stinking airbox connections. i have tried hot water, swearing (feels good but don't work either ),,,

Try an 86 Tecate with a 38mm Mikuni F/S carb with the stock airbox...

1986/87 KXT 250 Tecate:

These trikes use the Kawasaki FAIS (Fresh Air Intake System), which is just a fancy way of saying the airbox is one piece and runs all the way up the frame, under the gas tank, and has a big opening behind the radiator.

To get the carb off, your supposed to remove the airbox. To remove the airbox, you have to remove the gas tank. to remove the gas tank, you have to remove the rear fender/seat and radiator shrouds or atleast un bolt the shrouds from the radiators. :(

damn airboxes suck, might just replace it with straight K&N filter...lol I replaced the stock crap clamps with regular hose clamps lol! works much better that way!! but the airbox boot from carb to box is a horrible pain in the ass!

i feel the tecate-carb-blues :D in the 85 the carb is wedged in almost a straight line between the airbox and boot on the cylynder it is hard as hell to get off, gotta take the airbox off or the reed boot off and it is even more difficult to figure out how to get it back in!!

The 84/85, your pretty much screwed. I never could get an airbox out without dropping the rear shock.

There's an old Team Green cure-all for the 86/87 Tecate jetting blues. You saw the FAIS snorkel off the stock airbox. Then cover the opening with some screen using zip ties, pop rivets or what ever. It turns the nightmare into the easiest airbox ever to remove. After this mod it's unscrew the airbox to carb boot clamp, remove two m6 bolts and presto!, the whole airbox comes right off the side of the trike. you have to remove nothing, not even the airbox cover. I refuse to saw off my stock airbox. But i will do this mod if I ever think to round up a spare!

And I couldn't agree more with Curtis! I tried to put my 38mm Mikuni Flat slide that came of my 84 Tecate onto my 86. I gave up.
