I found a 1984 Big Red 200ES for $100 this weekend on Craigslist. The guy bought a farm and the trike was part of the deal so he didn't know anything about it. There are a few problems I need to address right away.
There is no key, can I bypass the key switch somehow?
Does anyone know where I can get an owners manual for it so I know how everything works?
The battery is dead, do I need a charged battery to start it with the pull start?
Thanks for any help

ok first off, it should not need a battery to run, and you should be able to easily remove the key switch and just use a killswitch and the pull start.

Kick arse man!! I so want a big red, esp. for $100! I read you can have a key cut in minutes by Honda, all they need is some number..maybe someone else will chime in.
Check Dammits sig, it has a link to a lot of manuals. Once again, I love dead trees, so I buy my manuals from Ebay in paper form.
The pull start is a backup in case your battery is dead. Them Honda people always thinking ahead :D
Congrats on the deal! Got any pics?

You'll like the 200 Big Red. I just got one last month too. Been trying to keep it running and already have over a grand in it.

I have an off topic question I have to ask. Is it possible for these to vapor lock when they get hot? Or do I just need to go through the fuel line and carb when it dies from what seems to be starvation?

Buy it! You can bypass the key or just use ebay and find an old ignition with a key, rip your old one out and put in the new one. Its just 3 or 4 wires. You dont need a battery for it to run but might need one in there (dead or not) to complete the circuit. My sx had a dead battery for the longest time and i just used the kickstart. The electric start is awesome though and is so great to have!!

I know there is a thread on here in the World Class Help forum about reparing keyed ignition switches, and if you read that you may be able to figure out how to take yours apart and make it so you can turn it with a screwdriver.

No, you didnt beat me to it... I was emailing the guy last weekend, but I decided that I didnt have the space for another project, and more than likely not having the understanding wife for it either! Good score for you!! Is it in decent shape? It looked pretty good in the pics...

Well I just finshed replacing the stopper paw on my 110 so on to the Big Red.
I can't seem to get the shifter into neutral. It will go between a couple gears but not neutral. I haven't tried to start it yet because I have a new key switch on the way but will it even start in gear? Is there a way to trick it into thinking it is in neutral just to see if I can get it started?

Update on my $100 Big Red-
Haven't had much time lately so been doing what I can when I can. Started off by replacing the key ignition. I think it had been siting so long things were kinda sticky so I rocked it back and forth long enough to get it into neutral. Hit the start button and it turned over but no fire. Shot some starter fluid and a new plug and it ran for a couple seconds. Now that I know it will run I changed out all fluids. Tried to fire again and noticed exhaust coming out of the side of the header pipe connection. I took the two bolts out to check the spark arrestor and it basicly fell off. The exhaust was so plugged up it wouldn't stay running. After cuttin off the end of the canister and clearing the exhaust it would run but it was obvious it needed a carb rebuild. Tonight I finished the carb, put in fresh fuel and it runs like a champ. One problem - when it sits not running fuel drips out of the hose at the bottom of the bowl. Is the float sticking open? What did I do wrong during the rebuild?
