    350X fender

I just bought a 1985 OEM Honda 350X front fender, as you can see it is in rough looking shape but has no cracks. I have not yet polished a red fender so I will let you guys know in a week. I should have it finished by then and show some before and after pictures.

I started on the fender this evening, I had to start with 600 grit wet sand paper. The top layer of the fender was flaking off, pretty dried up but the underneath was very nice. I think it will turn out very nice and it should be done by tomorrow niite. I will have before and after pictures between 5 - 8 pm, depending how long it takes. I will also time this process and let you guys know how long it takes. This fender will put my way of polishing to the test. If there are any flaws , it will definatley show up on this red fender. It is much easier to do white plastic because some flaws will not show as much. You can see below I have only sanded a small section on the side, this fender looks pretty rough right now. As you can see it has alot of pitting. I have to do alot of sanding on this one.

Yes it does take some time but it's the only way to get new looking fenders since the NOS ones are about extinct. Just do a little at a time if you can.

Yea ,Maier fenders are great for rough riding and you don't have to worry about them getting scratched but they have a darker finish than the originals. Maier fenders are very tuff but I just like the OEM color and look, much brighter in color., there is nothing like the originals.

I f you only want to remove spray paint from plastic, use 'Super Clean" engine degreaser comes in a gallon purple jug. Just spray it on and let it set a few minutes and hose off, reapeat if needed, it will bubble the paint off. If you are polishing a fender that is scratched up, first wet sand by hand only, starting with the finest sand paper you can such as 1000 grit then work your way up to 2000 grit. Then buff bufff buff for a few hours with a synthetic wool pad using a random orbital buffer, then to finally put the perfect finish use the orbital buffer with Meguiars Swirl X swirl remover, it is completely non abrasive and removes the super fine swirls left over from the dry synthetic wool pad buff. You will then have a factory shiny finish. Remember this will take many hours but worth it.

I stepped it up with a trick. Sprayed the degreaser on them both, then put the in a blacks garbage bag all day. Every once in awhile sprayed a little water in the bags( it was hot out) and then scraped with a plastic card(credit card works good), Then walla. Thanks for the tips this all worked great. Still have to buff but, I am out and riding.
